How did Port City Animal Hospital get started?
Port City Animal Hospital got started when I decided I wanted to open up a clinic where people could come and get top-of-the-line vet care with top-of-the-line client education. We offer all the vet services you'd have at a larger clinic, just in a smaller clinic setting, so it's more of a family feeling. We offer full services as far as surgical needs, like spays, neuters, fracture repairs, or spleen removal, along with all the regular things for skin infections, allergies, fleas, or wellness things like vaccines.
What sets Port City Animal Hospital apart when it comes to client education?
One of the really important things for us here at Port City Animal Hospital is client education. We've taken the time and money to invest in the equipment we need to make sure you're educated before you leave. It doesn't matter if I know what's wrong with your dog; it matters if you do. How we do that is by bringing the microscope and the x-rays to the exam room on the television. We sit down and take the time to give you client handouts to make sure you're educated on what's wrong with your pet.
How do you make vet visits more enjoyable for pets?
We want you to bring your pets hungry so we can make them more excited about vet visits because this is a place where not-fun things happen for your animal, and we want to change that around. We want your animal to love coming to the vet. We use treats, praising, and minimal restraint to gently hold your pet and give it lots of treats, like peanut butter or dog treats. This way, your pet can have a good experience while getting good vet care. We can still get blood draws and vaccines, which the dogs or cats may hate, but they like it here and want to come in the door because they associate those bad things with treats. If it equals treats, they're very happy to do it.
